Mr. Vellon is an associate attorney with the firm of Brownson & Ballou, PLLP. He is admitted to practice in the state of Minnesota. In that capacity, he practices in the areas of insurance defense litigation, commercial litigation, and the defense of employers in workers’ compensation, and other, claims.
Prior to joining Brownson & Ballou, PLLP, Mr. Vellon served for one year as a director of the Phillip C. Jessup International Moot Court at the University of Minnesota Law School. During the previous year Mr. Vellon was a member of the Law School’s International Moot Court Competition Team. Mr. Vellon, along with other team members, competed in the Midwest Regional Competition held at St. Louis University and was awarded second place brief at the Regional.
Before attending Law School, Mr. Vellon received a Master’s Degree in American History from Fordham University in New York. As a requirement for his degree Mr. Vellon completed a Master’s Thesis entitled: The New York Age and the World: An Afro-American Newspaper’s Views of Immigrants, 1890 – 1930. Using The New York Age as a primary source, Mr. Vellon analyzed the interaction between the waves of new immigrants coming into the United States and the perception of these new immigrants by African Americans living in New York at the turn of the century.
Mr. Vellon also spent two years working as a paralegal at the law firm of Shea & Gardner in Washington, D.C. While there he Researched and compiled necessary forms for The Nonprofit Corporation Forms Handbook by Barbara Kirschten, a book instructing nonprofit corporations how to incorporate in selected states.
